I have two daughters who both attended Hilltop. From 2009 to 2015, they were Crickets, Caterpillars, Butterflies, Cottontails, Chipmunks, Prairie Dogs and Dragonflies. My oldest even completed kindergarten at Hilltop the year before Lawrence Public Schools began offering a full-day option. I joined the Board of Directors in 2014 because I wanted to help sustain what I’ve always described as “Hilltop magic” – that intangible spirit that makes me smile when I spend time in the building.
I currently serve as the Board Secretary, chair of the Communications Planning Committee and member of the Teacher Support Committee. I also served on the committee that spent a year crafting Hilltop’s strategic plan, and I redesigned and help maintain the Hilltop website.
At my day job as Director of Communications & Marketing for the University of Kansas School of Law, I handle strategic planning and communications projects for recruitment, reputation enhancement, media relations, alumni outreach, fundraising and community engagement. I am also an experienced writer, editor and graphic designer.
Before joining KU Law, I worked for six years as a journalist at the Lawrence Journal-World. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy and a master’s degree in journalism, both from KU. In addition to my role on the Hilltop Board of Directors, I lead two Girl Scout troops and serve as the Sustainability Ambassador for the law school. Organization and creativity are the chief strengths I bring to all of these roles.
